Cougar Foundation

Join Cougar Foundation (CF) with only a $25.00 membership or $40.00 for the whole family.  If you would like to be in the know of the happenings at Sahuaro, then you need to join the Foundation and receive the newsletter, "Cougar Tracks".  You will also be contributing to the perpetuation of good things at your alma mater.The CF is very helpful in our reunion planning. Updates to the data base are instrumental in finding you for each reunion.

    Cougar Foundation President - Sandy Novak started the ceremony with Tom Pierson.
    '85 Major Lindquist did the flag presentation and Pledge of Allegiance
    Rodney Peete '84 was the Honorary Chair, following was Jay Dobyns '80 - author of No Angel leading us in Across the Field song... poor Sabino, you have no chance with our spirit.
    Tom Pierson then introduced the past hall of famers, sorry to say Cindy (FLOM) Rarick was a no show.

    The speeches were well read!  Some heart warming, some heart breaking (Jay introduced Stan & reminisced about Ricky's death & how the team came together that week).  Don stated how each class - teacher has helped bring him to the place he is now.  Jay stated the coaches were his backbone to his values.  Coach was choked up after Jay's speech, he did have his funny coach stories, including things about Billy Lopez.
    All in All, I am very happy to have witnessed  this ceremony, and wished you had joined us

Other News

Dick McConnell retired after 40 years at SHS October 2007 as boys' basketball coach. 

 

 

Steve Botkin (yes Ricky's little brother) is girl's basketball coach. Per the Cougar Tracks- the basketball team is ranked 2nd in the State. 

 

Every Year CF host the Dick Arnold Golf Classic.

 2009 was held on Saturday - May 30th at 49'rs CC..  Billy Lopez said  The golf tourney was a huge success and  a lot of sahuaro kids will benefit, especially with all the cut-backs in the budget. Thanks to Billy and Bob Vielledent, both working tirelessly to make this event possible.   Contact Billy   at 520.749.5828          This is the primary fundraiser for the Cougar Foundation.

 

 

 

 

2007 Cindy Rarick (Flom'78) was a financial supporter (Hall of Fame 1994).  Check out the article in March/April  Southern Arizona Tee Times magazine where she graced the front page.  {hadn't aged a bit}.  The Mistler brothers were among the Tee Sponsors.   Mitch Cummins '78, (June 2007) managed the Cougar Classic Golf Tournament.  Money raised will help the Sahuara Football Boosters.

_ Fine Arts had a makeover and renamed The Dave Ashcraft Center For Preforming Arts.

_Science rooms renovated, updated and reconfigured to accommodate new technology.

_New snack bar and restrooms adjacent to the football field and tennis areas.
